Hi, I’m Antoine Abou-Samra.
The Official Headline
I’m a 3-time CEO and entrepreneur with 30 years of experience (sorry no grey hair…) spanning across multiple industries and geographies. That’s normally the headline I give. But there is more to it.
The Hard-Learned Lessons
During this time, I had some successes but also failures. I made some right decisions but also mistakes. There are all part of my journey. Having perfect vision in hindsight is always a bit late. The stages of the journey are great learning experiences, but what if I could have avoided the errors. Often, we don’t want to hear advices from others because we “know”. This is where the ego kicks in. That’s what I did.
On Being An Outsider
I have always been an outsider. I came into industries with little or no prior knowledge. Some examples of my work include the turnaround of a Spanish high-end decorative accessory company moving it from a loss to profit within a year, the development of action sports (snowboarding. Windsurfing, etc.) in Lebanon, the growth of an international professional educational company based in Lebanon (i.e. through acquisition in the UK), or the strategic development and fundraising of a British publisher. As you can see, it’s quite diverse (and there are more…).
Being an outsider has advantages. One of the main one is that I was able to look at issues from a different perspective, getting away from the “this is the way we do things” approach. But the real the reason I was able to work in so many varied industries is that I focused on people. Business is first and foremost about people. How we engage with them, treat them, and nurture them.
Competitive Sports And Business
At the beginning of my career, I was also an elite athlete, competing from National Championships to World Championships in Snowboarding and Windsurfing. I was also coaching Juniors.
A Leader or top Executive like you is not very different from an athlete. You need skills and practice but most importantly the right mindset. Your performance as an athlete is related to your training but also your mental approach to the races you are going into. The same goes for a Leader or Executive. If you don’t have both, your performance will be under par.
Finding The Right Balance
I always tried to look for the right balance between work and “life” because to perform at the highest level, one needs to find such balance. This is the approach I used throughout my career. And this is the experience I want to share with you at SafeSpace Coaching.
You won’t be able to become the Leader you deserve to be if you are not in harmony with yourself and your environment. This balanced approached is hard to find, but I can guide you to discover it. This is my mission.
